Tasso Ecotourism Project

Prices

The Tasso Ecotourism Project faces challenges over costs which only apply to island locations. Most of our provisions, including drinking water, have to be imported from the mainland which inevitably increases the prices. Having said this we try hard to charge less than mainland facilities.

Prices are also subject to economic forces beyond our control, including fluctuations in petrol and engine oil.

We fix prices for individual trips according to the itineraries chosen by our guests, but at weekends we are able to establish fixed rates for tours of Tasso and Bunce Islands.

The following information is subject to periodic review. All prices are in Sierra Leonean leone (SLE).

Transport to and from the island

Jump to section titled: Transport to and from the island

We currently offer two modes of transport:

  • Trips in the Gladi Gladi passenger boat which is equipped to carry 25 visitors (all with life jackets).
  • Trips in the Gladiator speedboat which can carry 4 passengers and their luggage (or 5 passengers without luggage on day trips).

There are three pick-up locations:

  • Kissy Ferry Terminal in Freetown (Eastern)
  • Tagrin Community Beach adjacent to the Lungi Ferry Terminal
  • Pepel Wharf

Fuel costs are determined by distance, tidal regime, number of guests and the actual itinerary, while the overall cost per person depends on the number of passengers making the trip. We also have to cover harbour master and maritime authority dues and landing fees.

The tables below sets out indicative prices for the boat hire. Passengers share the boat hire cost so the cost per person depends on the actual number of guests on the trip. The information is for guidance only and a final price is negotiated and agreed with each party of guests before the trip commences.

Special trips

In addition to transport to and from Tasso we organise special trips including visits to Bunce Island with a tour guide to explore the Bunce Island Slave Fortress. These trips include a buffet lunch on the beach at the Kissy Resort, followed by beach games or quiet relaxation in recliners seats. These outings typically cost Le 800 per person.

Half day excursions in local fishing canoes are also provided with a crew of two local fishermen to do the hard work of paddling through the mangrove swamp. The cost for two guests sharing is Le 600.

Restaurant prices

Our prices are comparable or lower than those at mainland restaurants, despite the need to import most of the food. We offer African and International dishes. A one plate meal costs Le 140. Two course and three course meals can be provided.
